Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives Announces LGBTQ Affairs Commission Administrative Director Appointment
Appointment is the First for the Maryland Commission on LGBTQ Affairs

ANNAPOLIS, MD—The Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives today announced the appointment of the first Administrative Director to the Maryland Commission on LGBTQ Affairs, Jeremy Browning. Browning, appointed by the commission with Governor Hogan’s approval, will begin his service on July 27.

“We are delighted to welcome Jeremy as we begin this important work,” said Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives Executive Director Steven J. McAdams. “His dedication to promoting equality and his tireless advocacy in the community—in addition to his experience in coalition building, creating sustainability, and strategic planning—make him an ideal fit to lead our Commission on LGBTQ Affairs.”

The Maryland General Assembly created the Commission on LGBTQ Affairs via passage of HB130 during the 2021 legislative session. The commission will study and develop best practices and make policy recommendations to enhance the inclusion of LGBTQ individuals and communities statewide. Housed under the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives, the 15-member commission reflects the gender, racial, ethnic and geographic diversity of Maryland.

Browning is the founder of Annapolis Pride, a grassroots, volunteer non-profit organization that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community and engages local residents, businesses, and other groups in uniting and welcoming diversity in Maryland’s capital. He previously worked with the National Fenestration Rating Council and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and is currently serving as a commissioner with the City of Annapolis Human Relations Commission and is an active member of the Anne Arundel County Coalition for LGBTQ+ Students. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.

“I am honored to serve as the first Administrative Director for the Commission on LGBTQ Affairs,” said Browning. “I look forward to working with our commissioners on behalf of LGBTQ+ individuals across our great state as we continue to support Maryland’s flourishing LGBTQ+ community.”
