Kemp Urges Voters Not To Be ‘Distracted’ By Trump Case In Georgia: Likely Won’t Go To Trial ‘Before The Election’

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp cautioned Republican voters not to get distracted by the criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

In an interview with CNN, Kemp said he doubts the case will go to trial before the 2024 election. “I don’t think voters should get too distracted on all this,” he said, noting Judge McAfee was appointed for being a strong constitutionalist.

Kemp said Republicans should instead focus on communicating their vision and policies to voters. He warned that losing elections can have serious consequences, like the current border crisis under Biden.

“The reason the border is a disaster is because we didn’t win the 2020 election,” Kemp said. “It’s imperative that you win to be able to get into positions where you can actually govern.”

He pointed to his own 2022 re-election campaign’s success in avoiding distractions and staying focused on his record and agenda. “We didn’t get distracted on these other issues,” Kemp said about Trump’s election disputes. “That’s what we need to do in the presidential election.”

Kemp believes the party’s message, not the Trump probe, should be the priority heading into 2024. He wants Republicans concentrated on selling their platform to voters rather than dwelling on the legal case.
