Body Camera Footage Released in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash After Police Pursuit

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office has made public the body camera video from a tragic wrong-way collision on the Baltimore Beltway that claimed one life following a police pursuit in early April.

The footage stems from an incident on April 8th, when Baltimore County Police officers were attempting to stop a stolen vehicle in the Woodlawn area. However, the driver fled at high speed and proceeded to enter the outer loop of the Beltway traveling in the wrong direction.

In the horrifying moments captured on the officers’ body cameras, the stolen vehicle is seen crashing head-on into an oncoming car driven by 37-year-old Dimeka Thornton of Windsor Mill. The devastating impact proved fatal for Ms. Thornton.

While the IID generally releases such footage within 20 days per protocol, investigators required additional time in this case to allow the victim’s family and the involved officers to view the video footage first before its public release.

The body camera video provides a front-row perspective into what police face everday.
