Suspect in Killing of Maryland Parole Officer Arrested in West Virginia

The manhunt for the suspect wanted in connection with the killing of a Maryland parole officer in Chevy Chase on Friday has come to an end with an arrest in West Virginia.

Authorities apprehended Emanuel Edward Sewell, 54, of Chevy Chase, around 5 p.m. on Saturday along Interstate 64 near Hurricane, West Virginia.

The incident unfolded on Friday just before 6 p.m. when police responded to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase for a welfare check on 33-year-old Davis Martinez, a Maryland Parole and Probation agent.

Martinez had failed to report back to work after conducting a routine resident check on Sewell, who is a registered sex offender.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers made the tragic discovery of Martinez deceased. The medical examiner ruled his manner of death a homicide.

In light of the evidence linking Sewell to the case, a Blue Alert was issued for his arrest on Saturday afternoon.

Just a few hours later, law enforcement successfully apprehended Sewell along the interstate in West Virginia, bringing the intensive manhunt to a close.

Sewell now faces charges of second-degree murder and has been extradited back to Montgomery County to face prosecution.

The killing of Martinez, a dedicated parole officer carrying out his duties, has sent shockwaves through the community and the law enforcement fraternity.

Authorities are expected to provide further details as the investigation into this tragic incident continues.
