Police Chase Stolen U-Haul Truck, Arrest 3 Including Teen, Recover Handgun

A chase involving a stolen U-Haul truck ended with three arrests and the recovery of a handgun early Wednesday morning in Baltimore, according to the city’s police department.

At around 3:19 a.m., patrol officers in the 400 block of South Broadway observed a traffic violation committed by the driver of a U-Haul box truck. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the truck failed to pull over and fled the scene.

Police said the U-Haul driver continued violating multiple traffic laws while evading the officers in pursuit. Backup was called in, including air support and additional units from the Central District Action Team.

Eventually, the three suspects bailed out of the moving truck near the Central Booking Intake Facility and tried to flee on foot. However, officers were able to apprehend all three individuals in that area after a brief foot chase.

During the incident, police recovered a .380 caliber handgun. Investigators determined that the U-Haul truck had not been leased to any of the suspects, indicating it was likely stolen property.

The three individuals arrested included a 22-year-old man, a 19-year-old man, and a 16-year-old male juvenile. After being taken into custody, they were transported to the Central Booking facility to face charges related to the chase, stolen vehicle, firearm possession, and other offenses.

No further details were provided by Baltimore police on the identities of the suspects or the specific charges filed. The early morning chase and arrests came amid an ongoing focus on combating gun violence and illegal firearms in the city.
