Youth Crime Concerns Persist in Fells Point After Recent Incidents

On Tuesday evening, Baltimore Police identified a stolen vehicle through a license plate reader near Pratt and President streets. Police audio indicated the car had been taken during an armed carjacking.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle at Broadway and Eastern before fleeing on foot. Witnesses reported that a group of teenagers matching the description of those seen leaving the car entered several Fells Point stores, allegedly harassing workers. One business owner told FOX45 that a juvenile threatened to shoot them.

Apparently unaware of police tracking, the teens were pursued on foot, resulting in the driver’s arrest according to police audio.

This incident is the latest in a series of youth-related crimes in the Fells Point area. Two weeks prior, FOX45 cameras captured the arrest of a 16-year-old male for gun possession in the neighborhood. During that arrest, an officer was overheard telling the teen he would likely be released to his mother.

In June, a separate incident saw a 16-year-old girl shot in the 800 block of Broadway during an altercation with an adult male.

These events contribute to ongoing concerns from Fells Point business owners, who have long voiced complaints about youth crime and violence in the area.
