Hanover Man Charged with Attempting to Support ISIS

A 21-year-old man from Hanover, Maryland, has been arrested and charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, a foreign terrorist organization.

Michael Sam Teekaye was arrested on October 14 at Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) airport and appeared in court the following day. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland announced the charges in a press release.

According to the affidavit:

  • From March 2023 to October 2024, Teekaye had numerous conversations with an undercover officer.
  • During these conversations, Teekaye expressed desires to attack Americans who support Israel.
  • He claimed to be in contact with a Somali ISIS fighter and had obtained an Ethiopian visa to join him.
  • Teekaye purchased multiple weapons and trained at a shooting range in Severn.
  • On October 11, 2024, when asked if he was sure about joining ISIS, Teekaye confirmed his intentions.

After his arrest and being read his Miranda rights, Teekaye allegedly made threatening statements, including, “You will never stop me. Jihad will never stop. I’ll come and I’ll kill your soldiers.”

If convicted, Teekaye faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
