Fmr Obama Aide: Biden’s Israeli Strike Reaction ‘Weak’

Reports that President Joe Biden is enraged about an Israel Defense Forces airstrike that killed seven humanitarian aid workers in Gaza “only make him look weak,” since he’s not using his position to leverage any change, according to Jon Favreau, a one-time speechwriter for former President Barack Obama.

“The President doesn’t get credit for being ‘privately enraged’ when he still refuses to use leverage to stop the IDF from killing and starving innocent people,” Favreau posted to X on Wednesday, reports The Washington Examiner. “These stories only make him look weak.”

Favreau’s comment appeared with a link to a report from Politico, which quoted senior officials saying that Biden will not change any of his policies on Israel and its fight against Hamas, even though he was “enraged” by the airstrikes, which killed aid workers connected with World Central Kitchen as they delivered food into Gaza.

Israel claims that the aid workers were killed in an accidental strike. Celebrity chef Jose Andres, the organization’s founder, told Reuters on Wednesday that the aid workers were killed in an attack in which the Israeli military targeted them “systematically, car by car.”

White House spokesman John Kirby said this week that thousands of civilians have died in Gaza since the war began in October, including more than 200 aid workers.

Meanwhile, Republicans are slamming Biden over his anger at Israel rather than at Hamas, which started the war with its attacks on Israel.

“How about Biden being outraged over the American and Israeli hostages being brutalized by the Hamas savages and remembering that Hamas is the cause of all of this tragedy,” Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., posted to X. “Biden has abandoned Israel. I have not.”

Biden is to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, according to a U.S. official, who also said the president is likely to discuss the need for protection for humanitarian workers and to increase food shipments into Gaza.
