Rep. Chip Roy to Newsmax: Border, ‘It’s All a Joke’

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, lamented to Newsmax on Tuesday that securing the southern border was all a “joke” under the Biden administration — that President Joe Biden could’ve taken such actions on his first day in office.

Roy’s comment on “Rob Schmitt Tonight” fell after President Joe Biden announced — amid the lead-up to the November election — that he had signed an executive order that would otherwise temporarily suspend asylum requests once the number of daily encounters exceeds 2,500.

Biden “went into a microphone and said, ‘Oh, we’re going to cap it at 2,500.’ Does everybody get the absurdity of that? If he could do it today, he could have done it two months ago. He could have done it two years ago. He could have done it three and a half years ago,” Roy told Schmitt.

“And by the way, if the Senate bill was so good, right, they were going to cap it at 5,000. Why is the president coming in and saying, ‘now we’re going to cap it at 2,500?’ It’s all a joke. It’s all a sham. And everybody in America knows it,” Roy added, referring to the border bill that failed in the House.

Meanwhile, the legislation H.R. 2 has sat on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s desk for 390 days, according to Florida Rep. Byron Donalds.

Speaking to the signing of the executive order on Tuesday, Biden stated, “The border is not a political issue to be weaponized.”
