Vice President Kamala Harris has evaded the press for 21 days after being crowned the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, according to Fox News.

Harris has yet to hold a formal press conference or sit-down interview.

She has spoken at events and given informal remarks to reporters along the campaign trail, however.

Harris spoke for just over a minute with reporters in Michigan on Thursday, saying she looked forward to debating former President Donald Trump and claimed her team would set up a formal interview “by the end of the month.”

GOP vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance, during a Wednesday press conference in Detroit, said reports need to “show a little bit of self-awareness” when it comes to Harris’ reticence to engage with him. He said Harris needs to “do the job of a presidential candidate” by speaking to the press.

“Until she does, you guys have got to stop giving her a honeymoon and pretending that she is something she isn’t,” he said.

Former President Donald Trump echoed his running mate’s sentiments, saying Harris “doesn’t know how” to do a news conference.

“She’s not smart enough to do a news conference,” he said during a news conference at Mar-a-Lago.

National Review senior writer Noah Rothman said Harris needs to hold a press conference.

“The most revealing exposure to which a candidate can submit is a prolonged press conference — and that’s precisely what Harris needs to do. Indeed, we know that’s what she needs to do because it was only a few weeks ago that Democratic political professionals and their allies insisted that was what Biden had to do,” he said.

NewsBusters Executive Editor Tim Graham said don’t expect to see Harris deviate from Biden’s playbook of avoiding the press.

“Since the 2020 campaign, we have witnessed the bizarre spectacle of Donald Trump granting wide access to networks that suggest he’s a fascist and hammer him daily, while Biden and Harris won’t grant interviews to media outlets that gurgle all over them and their ‘historic accomplishments.’

“Either they think the press can never be servile enough or they are projecting a complete lack of confidence in their efforts to put complete sentences together.”
