House Oversight Committee Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, slammed the European Union’s efforts to “silence great Americans like Elon Musk” in a missive launched at EU Commissioner Thierry Breton, reported the New York Post.

Jordan claimed Breton is trying to “weaponize” the law against Musk and said he is prepared to investigate the governing body’s attempted “infringement on free speech.”

Breton’s warned Musk against “amplifying hateful content” in the wake of Musk’s conversation with former President Donald Trump broadcast on X.

Jordan accused the politician of pointing fingers at conservatives like Musk and Trump in a political bid to silence their voices.

“In light of your recent threats of reprisal toward X Corp … for facilitating political discourse in the US, we write to demand that you stop any attempt to intimidate individuals or entities engaged in political speech in the United States,” he wrote.

“Here, government bureaucrats may not intimidate, coerce, or threaten individuals engaged in free speech,” he wrote.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung weighed in on the missive, slamming the EU for interfering with U.S. politics.

“The European Union should mind their own business instead of trying to meddle in the U.S. presidential election,” Cheung said. “Let us be very clear — the European Union is an enemy of free speech and has no authority of any kind to dictate how we campaign.”

Jordan said “the silence from the pro-censorship Biden-Harris administration is deafening” on the issue.

“You would think censorship of American speech by foreign governments would be a step too far even for them,” his spokesman told the Post.
