Democrats are calling on Angela Alsobrooks, their nominee in the Maryland senate race, to do more to raise her profile, Punchbowl News reported.

Alsobrooks is locked in a tight rate against former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan, who was popular in his two terms of running Maryland, giving Republicans a chance in the deep blue state.

Democrats told Punchbowl they are concerned Marylanders don’t know enough about Alsobrooks, the executive of Prince George County, compared to Hogan.

Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said Alsobrooks “needs to be seen by folks across the state.”

“Polls are showing that she’s not as well-known as we’d like to have in Maryland,” said Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., whose seat Hogan and Alsobrooks are running to replace.

Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Md., who represents Baltimore County, said he hasn’t campaigned with Alsobrooks but will be soon.

“First thing, she’s from the Washington suburbs. So is the former governor, but she’s been really active there,” Ruppersberger told Punchbowl. “I think she wins it, but it’s going to be close.”

A spokesman for the Alsobrooks campaign said, “As more people get to know Angela, the more excited they get.”

“We will continue to meet people across this state and introduce both Angela and the high stakes of this race,” Connor Lounsbury, a senior adviser to the campaign, told Punchbowl in a statement.

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., told Punchbowl that he believes enthusiasm created by Vice President Kamala Harris will help Alsobrooks win.

“The top of the ticket is bringing out exactly the kinds of people who would be Alsobrooks supporters: women, minorities and progressives,” Raskin said.
