Frederick County school bus veers off road and crashes into tree, driver hospitalized

A school bus in Frederick County, Maryland, crashed into a tree on Monday as students from an elementary school were on board, according to county officials.

Officials said the bus driver was severely trapped, though the two students on board from Urbana Elementary School were able to get out on their own, uninjured.

Emergency crews were called to an area near Ball Road and Ijamsville Road at around 4:24 p.m. after the school bus left the roadway and crashed into a tree.

The driver was pulled out of the bus by emergency crews and airlifted to a trauma center. The two students were evaluated by EMS crews before being released to their parents.
