Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., who was a member of the House Jan. 6 select committee, said Friday that Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign was “hijacked by MAGA.”

On Thursday, Kennedy issued a statement vowing to appoint a special prosecutor “to investigate whether prosecutorial discretion was abused” in relation to Jan. 6, 2021.

Kinzinger, on Friday, told CNN that Kennedy’s campaign had been “hijacked by MAGA.”

“Maybe not ‘hijacked,’ maybe voluntarily,” the former congressman added. “And so you’re gonna start seeing more and more of this kind of Donald Trump conspiracies. And he’s either going along with it because that’s gonna help him raise money and get notoriety, or he truly believes it. Regardless, he’s absolutely wrong, and this is a frightening thing.”

In an email titled “We Must Free Assange!” sent by Kennedy’s campaign, comparisons were drawn between the treatment of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and the Jan. 6 defendants.

“The Brits,” the email read, “want to make sure our government doesn’t kill Assange. This is the reality that every American Citizen faces — from Ed Snowden, to Julian Assange to the J6 activists sitting in a Washington DC jail cell stripped of their Constitutional liberties.”

Kennedy spokesperson Stephanie Spear later commented that the statement was made error, adding it “does not reflect Mr. Kennedy’s views. It was inserted by a new marketing contractor and slipped through the normal approval process.”

According to The Epoch Times, the unnamed contractor was dismissed.
