The House Judiciary Committee has subpoenaed Vice President Kamala Harris and the Department of Health and Human Services for more information related to the administration’s “lost contact” with over 145,000 “unaccompanied alien children,” according to a post on X by the official House Judiciary GOP account.

“According to new Committee estimates, ‘Border Czar’ Kamala Harris and HHS have lost contact with 145,000+ unaccompanied alien children after placing them with sponsors, including illegal aliens,” the post read.

A copy of the subpoena, issued by Chair Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, was also posted on X.

Addressed to Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, the letter outlines the committee’s intent to continue conducting oversight of the administration’s enforcement of immigration law.

“This oversight includes examination of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), a component of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is charged with the care and placement of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) encountered at the border,” the letter read.

The letter says the committee has “repeatedly” asked HHS for data related to the number of lost illegal immigrants. HHS’s response, the committee says, “has been woefully inadequate.”

The letter sites reporting by The New York Times that HHS has been unable to contact at least 85,000 UACs after they had been placed with a sponsor. The panel points out that amounts to roughly 34% of all UACs under the Biden-Harris administration.
