Marine Le Pen’s right-leaning National Rally Party would take the first of France’s legislative election with 31% of the vote, while President Emmanuel Macron’s Renaissance Party would place third with 18% and an alliance formed of left-wing parties would net 28%, according to a new poll.

The survey, conducted by Elabe for BFMTV and La Tribune Dimanche and published Wednesday, was conducted of 1,502 adults online Tuesday and Wednesday before Macron declared in a speech that he won’t resign if his party doesn’t win the upcoming election, reports Bloomberg.

The poll further showed that 39% of those surveyed would prefer for Le Pen’s political heir, Jordan Bardella, to become the prime minister of France after the election, with current premier Gabriel Attal coming in three percentage points behind, at 36%.

Le Pen is widely seen as the front-runner for the 2027 election. Macron, who is limited to two terms in office, will not be able to seek reelection.

In addition, a majority of respondents, at 72%, believe that Macron, who was first elected president in 2017, is a handicap for his party.

Sunday, he dissolved France’s National Assembly and called for a snap election after the right trounced his party in Europe’s Parliament elections. The lower house elections are being called for June 30, with a second-round vote to follow on July 7.

Macron’s decision is being seen as offering the right a chance at political power in France. However, if Le Pen’s National Rally party wins a majority in the parliament, Macron will be left with little power for the three years he has remaining in office.

“We are ready to take over power if the French give us their trust in the upcoming national elections,” Le Pen said at a rally.

Macron’s party currently has 169 out of 577 lawmakers in France’s lower house, compared to 88 for Le Pen’s party.
