Rep. Meuser to Newsmax: Police Deserve Universal Respect

Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa. told Newsmax on Thursday how important it was to honor law enforcement during National Police Week.

Appearing on “American Agenda,” Meuser, the son of a former New York police officer, discussed the numerous bills passed in the House of Representatives to support law enforcement, including the Gold Shield Act, which provides recognition to families who lost a loved one in the line of duty.

“What was really astonishing was the number of Democrats who voted against [the bills],” Meuser said.

Meuser said more than 100 Democrats voted against a bill that would deport an illegal immigrant if they assaulted a police officer.

“You would think that would be a no-brainer,” Meuser said.

The congressman said many Democrats didn’t attend candlelight vigils and other events meant to honor law enforcement.

“It’s terrible there’s not universal respect for the men and women in blue dedicated to protecting and serving” Meuser said. “It starts at the top. If they don’t provide the respect, it leads into the community.”

Meuser said he recently visited Philadelphia and said it was insane how District Attorney Larry Krasner refused to enforce crimes.

“They are letting go more than 70 to 75% of violent criminals,” Meuser said. “What a surprise, crime is way up, particularly violent crime.”
