Report: Former Gov. Cuomo Eyes NYC Mayor Job

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is preparing to run for mayor of New York City, Axios reported, citing two people familiar with the matter.

Cuomo was preparing his mayoral run before news broke Thursday that Mayor Eric Adams is facing federal charges of securing bribes from foreign nationals and illegal campaign contributions.

Cuomo, who served as New York governor from 2011-21, resigned after facing numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, including an independent investigation that determined he sexually harassed multiple women.

A sex crime charge against Cuomo in Albany County was later dismissed. Cuomo has denied all allegations. He later filed a state ethics complaint and a lawsuit against Attorney General Letitia James over the investigation.

A spokesman for Cuomo told Axios that Cuomo has “no plans to make plans.” Cuomo still has an $8 million campaign war chest.

Emails reveal that Cuomo drastically undersold his role in a report that deflected blame for the deaths of thousands of nursing home patients in the early days of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, The New York Times reported last week.

Cuomo testified this month before the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic that he played no role in drafting the report and that he did not recall reviewing or giving editorial notes on it.

However, a review of internal emails and documents reveal that Cuomo not only saw the report but participated in writing early drafts of the document.
