Speaker Johnson Says CBS Selectively Edited Interview

CBS News is under fire for the second time in two weeks after House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., accused the mainstream news network of selectively editing out 5 minutes of his answers from a pre-taped interview that aired over the weekend.

Johnson posted three different segments to X on Monday night that detailed the network’s editing of his answers from Sunday’s “Face the Nation” interview. Johnson’s side-by-side comparisons show that CBS News edited out portions of his answers that were critical of the Biden-Harris administration.

It comes one week after “60 Minutes” selectively edited out a word-salad answer given by Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris that cast her in a bad light.

“CBS has been under fire for selectively editing their interviews to PROMOTE Democrats and UNDERMINE Republicans. Yesterday, they chose to cut FIVE important minutes out of my nearly 15 minute interview,” Johnson said in an opening post Monday night.

CBS News edited out Johnson’s answers about election integrity, including Virginia’s effort to clean the rolls of illegal immigrants and the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, and the Biden administration’s response to victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina.

CBS removed roughly 90 seconds of Johnson’s response to “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan regarding the SAVE Act and its role in preventing illegal immigrants from voting.

“The Biden-Harris Admin let millions of illegal aliens in our country. So, the House passed the SAVE Act to ensure only American citizens vote in American elections. CBS edited that out and focused on 2020 instead of immediate threats to election integrity,” Johnson said in another post.

Likewise, the network excised Johnson’s remarks about the Biden-Harris administration suing the state of Virginia and Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin for cleaning up the state’s voter rolls by removing non-citizens.

“Apparently, CBS also doesn’t want you to hear about Virginia Gov. Youngkin, who is trying to clean the state’s voter rolls so non-American citizens can’t vote there. We need more states doing this, but the Biden-Harris Administration is SUING VIRGINIA and trying to STOP it,” Johnson said in the post.

Brennan on Tuesday morning posted the transcript of Johnson’s full interview, nearly 48 hours after airing the altered version.

CBS News came under fire last week after teasing a clip from Harris’ interview on “60 Minutes.” This was her original answer: “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” Harris told “60 Minutes” host Bill Whitaker.

However, when the interview aired Monday night, Harris’ response had been edited to this: “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”

“Release the FULL Kamala tapes, @CBSNews,” Johnson posted separately on Tuesday.
