Trump touts friendly call with Colombia’s Petro, planning a White House meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump posted to Truth Social, saying he had a friendly phone call with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro. In the post, Trump even says he has invited Petro to the White House.

“It was a Great Honor to speak with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, who called to explain the situation of drugs and other disagreements that we have had,” Trump wrote. “I appreciated his call and tone, and look forward to meeting him in the near future.” He said that this meeting would take place at the White House.

This new development comes days after Trump called Colombia “very sick” after ousting Venezuela’s President Nicolás Maduro. He also accused Petro of “making cocaine and selling it to the United States.”

When asked if a U.S. intervention was possible on Air Force One on Sunday, Trump responded, saying, “Sounds good to me.”

Trump has imposed sanctions on Petro, his family and a member of his government last October after being accused of being involved in the global drug trade.

“He has cocaine mills and cocaine factories,” Trump said of Prieto on Sunday. “He’s not going to be doing it.”
