WASHINGTON (TNND) — Minnesota Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar said that the federal probe into alleged fraud in her home state is causing chaos.
The White House announced in early January that it was conducting a federal investigation into fraud in Minnesota after independent journalist Nick Shirley went to multiple daycare centers in the state that appeared vacant.
He alleged that taxpayers were funding empty daycare centers, meaning millions of dollars were going to fraud.
Omar said that the probe from the Trump administration has caused “confusion and chaos.”
“It’s not necessary in a moment when we are trying to deal with a serious problem that needs serious people to be able to address it,” Omar said Sunday during a Face the Nation interview.
She also said that the rhetoric around the situation isn’t helpful.
“There is no reason for them to use this level of rhetoric,” she said.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said over the weekend that more federal agents coming to Minneapolis for a massive immigration operation.
Right now, there are over 2,400 federal agents in the Minneapolis area.
