PHILADELPHIA (TNND) — A teenage boy is dead after being shot inside the bathroom at a Chipotle near Temple University’s campus in North Philadelphia on Monday, according to police.
Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small reported the shooting happened just after 5 p.m., and when officers arrived at the scene, they found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the chest as well as one spent shell casing.
Small added that the boy was in the Chipotle with at least two other people when he requested the keys to the bathroom. Surveillance cameras captured two teens entering the bathroom, and moments later, employees found the teen shot.
A person of interest was taken into custody, according to Small. Philadelphia police did not specify whether they were a suspect or a witness.
The Temple University Police Department said Temple surveillance footage helped officials determine that a person of interest fled the area immediately after the incident.
Monday marked the first day of the spring semester at Temple University, and students were being warned to stay away from the area.
