DHS defends aggressive tactics in Minnesota, DOJ investigates church disruption

There has been an escalation in anger on the streets of Minneapolis, with protesters citing not just the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an ICE Agent, but other aggressive tactics by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday, Mayor Jacob Frey, D, Minneapolis said, “They’re asking for id’s or passports if you happen to look like you’re Latino or Somali.”

Frey, along with Governor Tim Walz, D, Minnesota, are now under investigation by the Department of Justice over an alleged conspiracy to impede federal immigration officers.

The DOJ is also investigating an incident at a House of Worship in Saint Paul, in which protesters interrupted a church service, where a local official with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement apparently serves as a pastor.

“These are the people who will say they have a First Amendment right to speak but they trampled on the First Amendment right of that church to be able to worship. That’s what they are doing right now. This is completely unacceptable,” said Rep. Byron Donalds, R, Florida, who is currently running for Governor in Florida.

The Department of Homeland Security has been defending its tactics, sharing photos of undocumented migrants with criminal records who have been arrested in Minnesota.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has put 1,500 active-duty military troops on notice for a possible deployment.to Minnesota, threatening to use the Insurrection Act.

“He thinks the military is his, you know, his tool, his toy that he could just use at any time, and he wants nothing more. To use them and deploy them to these blue cities to intimidate,” said Sen. Ruben Gallego, D, Arizona, in an interview on CNN Sunday.

Minnesota is also front and center on Capitol Hill, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday digging into fraud allegations and Congressman Tom Emmer introducing a bill that would strip citizenship from naturalized Americans convicted of fraud, terrorism ties or aggravated felonies.

President Trump singled out Governor Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar, D, Minnesota, in a post online, writing they don’t mind the protests because it “keeps the focus of attention off the 18 billion dollars plus fraud that has taken place in the state.”

A now viral video put together by conservative Social Media Influencer Nick Shirley, alleging widespread daycare fraud, was one of the reasons for the increased ICE presence in the first place.
