Florida GOP Rep. Greg Steube said that it would be worth getting rid of the filibuster if it meant passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act).

“It is absolutely worth getting rid of the filibuster to pass the SAVE Act,” Steube wrote on the social media platform, X on Sunday.

The SAVE Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship when people register to vote in federal elections.

Steube’s remarks come just two days after Florida GOP Rep. Anna Paulina Luna threatened to shut down the floor of the House if the Senate didn’t pass the SAVE Act.

“If the Senate does not pass the SAVE Act and/or schedule a date for a vote by the time we return, I have enough votes from other members to shut down the floor of the House,” Luna wrote on the social media platform, X.

Arizona GOP Rep. Eli Crane said he would also get behind Luna in an effort to get the Senate to pass the SAVE Act.

“These people want to fundamentally remake and tear the institutions and culture of this countrywe have to keep fighting it at every single turn,” Crane said during an interview with conservative influencer Benny Johnson.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump called on lawmakers to pass a national voter ID law before the midterms in 2026.

“SAVE Act or the ‘Save America Act.’ I think we’re going to change the name a little bit. I think everyone in this room certainly should do it,” the president said.
