The husband attempted to rescue the pair upstairs but could not reach them.
The mother then dropped her six-month-old son out of a second-floor window to her husband before crawling through the flames to the staircase.
The mother was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center in Baltimore and the child to Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, DE. The husband also went to a hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the fire, which occurred at 34 Thyme Street, remains under investigation, however “an unspecified failure within an electrical strip lighting or power strip can not be ruled out,” the Fire Marshal’s Office said.
In total, six people were displaced by the incident. They are receiving assistance from family members.
