WASHINGTON (TNND) — U.S. Olympic officials changed the name of a hospitality space for American athletes from “ICE House” to “Winter House.”
This comes amid protests throughout the U.S. regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting immigration crackdown operations.
There have even been protests in Italy about ICE, according to Fox News.
The hospitality space is meant for athletes like figure skaters and hockey players to have meet and greets, relax and be with family.
“Our hospitality concept was designed to be a private space free of distractions where athletes, their families, and friends can come together to celebrate the unique experience of the Winter Games,” U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey and U.S. Speedskating said in a statement.
The Department of Homeland Security put out a statement, saying that ICE does not do immigration operations in foreign countries.
Anti-ICE protests have been taking place across the U.S., mainly in Minnesota following the deaths of two protesters.
The FBI is currently investigating both matters as both Alex Pretti and Renee Good were killed by ICE agents while protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies. More immigration crackdowns are still expected to happen despite the protests.
