WASHINGTON (TNND) — Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., was hospitalized on Monday after experiencing flu-like symptoms.
In an abundance of caution, after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend, Senator McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation last night,” a spokesperson for McConnell said in a statement to Fox News.
“His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving,” the statement continued. “He is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business.”
McConnell skipped Senate votes on Monday and Tuesday.
The senator, who is 83, had multiple health scares last year. McConnell fell while walking down a hallway when he was asked a question about ICE. He also froze while speaking during a press conference.
Last February, the senator slipped and fell near the Senate chamber. Later that day, he fell during the Republican conference lunch. After the falls, McConnell used a wheelchair out of an abundance of caution.
“Senator McConnell is fine. The lingering effects of polio in his left leg will not disrupt his regular schedule of work,” a spokesperson said at the time.
McConnell is a child survivor of polio.
He announced last year he would end his decades-long career in the Senate.
