WASHINGTON (TNND) — Rising country music singer Ella Langley is the face of American Eagle’s new ad campaign “Denim Darling.”
Langley’s selection as the face of “Denim Darling” comes just two years after the 26-year-old singer released her debut album “Hungover.”
During last May’s American Country Music Awards, she won five trophies, including new female artist of the year, and single of the year for “You Look Like You Love Me.” It was the most awards ever won by a newly nominated artist.
And now Langley said becoming the new face of American Eagle’s jeans has become a full circle moment for her.
“I have these photos growing up wearing American Eagle shorts that my mom bedazzled herself. It was the first pair of denim I loved,” she told People. “American Eagle has always been about being yourself, and that’s something I really try to get across in my music. My style in day-to-day life is pretty laid-back, a little outdoorsy, and always about comfort, so working with a brand that celebrates that felt right.”
American Eagle launched its newest ad campaign on Wednesday, just seven months after the clothing apparel company faced criticism over its Sydney Sweeney-centered campaign last summer.
Critics claimed that the “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans” ad campaign possessed racial undertones that was a dog whistle to Nazi eugenics.
In one ad Sweeny spoke in play-on words, with the words “genes” and “jeans.”
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color,” her ad began.
“My jeans are blue,” she added as the camera closed in on her eyes.
In spite of the fierce backlash, American Eagle stood by its ad campaign with Sweeney, reiterating that “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans’ is and always was about the jeans.”
