HUNT VALLEY, Md. (TNND) — Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman said Thursday it would be “fantastic” of President Donald Trump to release the government’s files on aliens.
Trump announced earlier in the day that he would direct his administration to publish records on extraterrestrial life.
“If President Trump is gonna release everything, I think that’s fantastic, ‘cause I think America, I think, and the world would deserve,” Fetterman said during a Fox News interview.
Trump wrote in a social media post that he would order the files’ release because of “tremendous interest” for them.
“Based on the tremendous interest shown, I will be directing the Secretary of War, and other relevant Departments and Agencies, to begin the process of identifying and releasing Government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and unidentified flying objects (UFOs), and any and all other information connected to these highly complex, but extremely interesting and important, matters,” the president said. “GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
Trump told reporters prior to his post that he was considering releasing the files to get former President Barack Obama, who said last week that aliens are real, “out of trouble.” Obama “made a big mistake” by disclosing classified information, according to Trump, although The National News Desk can’t confirm.
The former president said a day after his initial comments, which were made during a lighthearted segment of a podcast interview, that he was trying to “stick with the spirit of the speed round.”
“But since it’s gotten attention let me clarify,” Obama wrote in an Instagram post.
“Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens is low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”
The existence of aliens has been debated by scientists. In 2023, a NASA group studying the agency’s approach to UFOs – also known as unidentified anomalous phenomena – reported that unreliable information has made it challenging to draw conclusions.
“Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) are one of our planet’s greatest mysteries. Observations of objects in our skies that cannot be identified as balloons, aircraft, or natural known phenomena have been spotted worldwide, yet there are limited high-quality observations,” the team said.
“Despite numerous accounts and visuals, the absence of consistent, detailed, and curated observations means we do not presently have the body of data needed to make definitive, scientific conclusions about UAP,” the group added.
