FORT MADISON, Iowa (WKRC) – An Iowa child is accused of stabbing a man who authorities say was assaulting the child’s mother during a domestic disturbance.
According to WGEM, Fort Madison Police Chief Cody Potthast said officers responded Feb. 8 to a report of a domestic incident and found Jacob Haage, 32, on the ground with multiple stab wounds.
Police said Haage returned home from work Feb. 7 and began drinking heavily. According to authorities, he argued with the child’s mother, punched a wall and injured his hand.
The woman told police she attempted to drive Haage to the emergency room, but he allegedly became belligerent, punched her in the face and left the vehicle. She returned home.
Authorities said Haage came back to the house around midnight, continued breaking items and allegedly attacked the woman. Police allege he placed her in a choke hold before she escaped and ran to her son’s room. Investigators said Haage then pinned her down in front of the child, who stabbed him in defense of his mother.
Haage was arrested and charged with domestic abuse assault impeding airway. Police said no charges are expected against the child.
