A terminally ill rescue dog enjoyed her final moments doing some of her favorite activities — and it was caught on camera.
A video shared by Storyful shows the dog, Gracie, sitting in a wagon as she is escorted through her neighborhood in California. There’s a sign attached to the wagon urging people to pet her so she can celebrate her “Best Last Day Ever.”
“She’s just, like, the center of the universe,” one man says as he crouches down beside the pit bull mix. “Everybody loves her.”
In the video, people are seen petting Gracie, with some even giving her with gifts, including a bouquet of white roses and sunflowers.
At one point, a woman feeds Gracie a hamburger, while someone else gives her dessert: a cup of ice cream.
Others shower her with compliments, with one woman calling her gorgeous.
Gracie’s owner, Kathleen Ives, organized the special day, according to PEOPLE. The media outlet noted that Ives wanted to honor Gracie in a memorable way after the dog was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for helping ours heal through Gracie’s beautiful spirit shining through and touching so many lives,” Ives wrote on TikTok after Gracie’s passing in December.
Ives said she will forever be grateful to everyone for the outpouring of love and support. She said she is overwhelmed by the response.
“(I’m) so grateful to everybody who felt some healing in their heart because of this or elicited any kind of emotion — joy, grief, happiness, sadness,” Ives said in the footage. “Emotions are good. We came here to feel.”
She added that while losing a loved one is never easy, she learned something special from Gracie.

“Gracie’s biggest lesson was to spread joy to anyone, no matter what their circumstance or who they were,” Ives said. “And we’re taking that with us and continuing her legacy every day.”
