Four injured in CO2 equipment explosion at Coca-Cola bottling facility in Baltimore

An explosion involving carbon dioxide-handling equipment at a Coca-Cola bottling facility in East Baltimore left four people injured Tuesday morning, including one person in critical condition, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.

Officials say shortly before 10:30 a.m., fire department units responded to the 700 block of N. Kresson St. at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated facility for a reported injured person.

When firefighters arrived, they were informed that an explosion had taken place involving equipment that handles carbon dioxide.

Firefighters located and rescued multiple injured patients and immediately began providing emergency medical care, the department said.

A total of four patients were treated. One patient was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. A second patient was taken to the hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Officials say that the two other patients were treated at the scene and released.
