Old Dominion University issues ‘active threat’ alert

Two people are injured, and a suspect is dead after shots were fired at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, on Thursday morning, according to the school.

Officials said the gunman opened fire at Constant Hall around 10:49 a.m. and emergency personnel responded immediately. The injured were taken to a local hospital.

Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day and students and faculty are asked to avoid the area while emergency responders continue to investigate.

Another update will be provided at 12:15 p.m.

An alert telling students and faculty to “follow run-hide-right protocols” was sent out by the university at 10:48 a.m.

“ODU Urgent Alert: Active threat reported at Constant Hall. Follow Run-Hide-Fight protocols. Emergency personnel responding. Avoid area,” the alert read.
