California is the next big fraud story, as the Democrats have once again let billions of taxpayer dollars be stolen on their watch. For months, the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Dr. Oz, has been sounding the alarm on fraud in California hospices. Independent journalist Nick Shirley also did some digging into it (and Gavin Newsom attacked him for it), as did CBS — twice — and Fox News.

Gavin Newsom and the Democrats dismissed the claims, saying they’d already addressed fraud by pausing the issuance of new hospice licenses. Yet they failed to address the already-licensed hospice agencies that were continuing to bilk taxpayers for billions. A few days ago, Shirley reported that some of the fraudsters he exposed had disappeared, which means he’s done more to end the fraud than the governor of the state.
But while California is dragging its heels on ending the fraud, CMS has revoked the billing license of Dr. Fariba Javaherian, a registered dermatologist, who was associated with dozens of hospice facilities.

A California doctor who billed a whopping $35 million in hospice care to Medicare last year has had her billing license revoked.
The Post has uncovered a network of physicians who appear to be driving tens of millions of questionable billing in California’s hospice system.
Dr. Fariba Javaherian is a registered dermatologist, but according to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) billing data obtained by The Post, she is associated with 63 hospice facilities across California either as a medical director, attending physician or in some other capacity.
The National Provider Identifier (NPI) registered with Dr. Javaherian, a unique 10 digit number given to individual healthcare providers, was used for 1,662 unique patients across the 63 hospice agencies and appeared on more than 6,000 claims that billed $35,816,331.
Following The Post’s extensive investigation, CMS revoked Javaherian’s license to bill Medicare.

Simply incredible. A dermatologist was listed as the medical director, attending or in other roles at more than 60 hospices and California did nothing.

It’s shameful. She wasn’t caring for dying patients. These scammers used her credentials to bill Medicare and steal money.
And Democrats turn a blind eye to it.
