Silver Spring man facing charges after fight, shooting at Blake High School

A young Silver Spring man is facing charges after a fight in the parking lot of Blake High School in Cloverly ended with a 17-year-old being shot, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD).

Djibia Gombo, 19, was arrested and is facing a charge of first-degree assault following the incident in the 300 block of Norwood Road.

Authorities said that on April 29, at about 11:29 a.m., an MCPD Community Engagement Officer who was already on campus was flagged down about a fight involving several people in the school parking lot.

Montgomery County Public Schools security and the officer responded.

During the fight, a handgun was found after it was reportedly thrown to the ground. Police said school security recovered the firearm.

A short time later, a 17-year-old male arrived at an area hospital with a gunshot wound, according to police. Preliminary information indicates the teen was involved in the fight.

Detectives later determined that during the altercation, the gun discharged and the teen was shot, police said.

The investigation remains active, and detectives are continuing to look into how the shooting occurred.

MCPD officials said additional charges are pending in connection with the fight and shooting.

Gombo is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit while awaiting a bond hearing.
