Alexandra “Lexi” is the daughter of Bowie and supermodel Iman, and the 25-year-old posted a now-deleted Instagram Story about the “very weird feeling” she gets when people comfort her by mentioning her legendary father’s legacy.

“It’s a very weird feeling when people try to comfort me and say, ‘Don’t forget who you are, you’re David Bowie’s daughter,’ ” she began her post. “I know it’s said with good intentions, and I hear it quite often, but it always lands strangely with me.”

Lexi’s post continued, “I’d rather be reminded of who I am than who I’m related to. Who I am is not based on him.”

She added, “And if you really sit with that sentence for a second, even if it comes from a good place, it can feel like it minimizes me as an entire individual. Like I’m being reminded of someone else before I’m being reminded of myself.”

She concludes with, “I just wanted to say that because I’ve thought about it for a long time, and I hope it makes sense.”

Back in February, Lexi shared a video on the same platform that reveals she was forced to enter a treatment center at 14 for an eating disorder and substance abuse. After that, she was sent to boarding school in Utah, which meant she wasn’t with Bowie when he died.

Bowie and Iman welcomed Lexi back in 2000. Bowie also shared son Duncan Zowie Jones with ex-wife, model and actress Angie Bowie.

Bowie passed away on Jan. 10, 2016, from liver cancer at 69-years-old.
