BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A Baltimore County family is counting its blessings after two massive trees crashed into their Reisterstown home during powerful Fourth of July storms, leaving the house heavily damaged and displacing everyone inside.
The trees fell onto two neighboring homes in the Academy Acres neighborhood, but the most significant damage was concentrated on one residence, where a large section of the roof collapsed under the weight of the trees.
“It was rough,” neighbor Ed Parks said, “I can’t even imagine the cost to repair it.”
The homeowner, who spoke with FOX45 by phone, said his entire family was inside when the trees came crashing down. “I thought it was an earthquake,” he said, “So, I’m like, let me get out of the house.”
He adds that his mother was sitting at the kitchen table when one of the trees crashed through the roof and struck her. Despite the frightening ordeal, he says she is expected to recover, but didn’t want to go into details about her injuries.
The damage inside the home is extensive. Debris covers the floors, insulation hangs from the exposed ceiling, and large tree branches protrude through the roof.

“They could have been injured a lot worse,” Parks said.
The storms that swept through Maryland over the holiday weekend brought heavy rain and strong winds, toppling trees and knocking out power to thousands of homes across the region.
Around the neighborhood, many have been left without power.
“Sleeping in the heat is uncomfortable,” said Parks.
All things considered though, “It’s going to take forever to clean these trees up,” said Parks, “So, I’ll take the heat!”
