Virginians Are Turning on Abigail Spanberger

Abigail Spanberger carried off one of the greatest bait-and-switch elections in Virginia’s history. She ran as a moderate, a reasonable Democrat who would temper President Trump and help affordability in her state. But as soon as she was sworn into office, Spanberger and her fellow Democrats threw out all pretense of being moderates.

They voted for massive tax hikes on everything from gym memberships to Uber rides to dog walking, and they pushed through a redistricting scheme that was so unconstitutional and disenfranchising for the state’s Republican voters that even the left-leaning Virginia state Supreme Court rejected the measure after it was narrowly approved by voters.

Now Spanberger is being booed at her appearances, including one at Galax, a city in southern Virginia near the North Carolina border.

“Good evening, everyone!” Spanberger says as the crowd jeers loudly. “I hope that you are enjoying this extraordinary event, of the 90th anniversary of the Old Fiddlers Convention. It is such a pleasure to be here.”

The rest of that sentence was drowned out by boos.

“Continue to enjoy extraordinary music,” she continues over the crowd, “community, and coming together on this fantastic final day of the convention. Thank you so much and enjoy.”

Ouch.

Pretty much.

Right. And the crowd hates Spanberger.

Her redistricting scheme proved this.

Vote for Republicans. Save Virginia.

All this shows is that Spanberger has failed to win over these voters. It’s not heroic or brave of her to go, and Republicans would show up, too.

She’s getting what she deserves.
