Mal-ternal Instinct

A decade ago, the Left took a solemn stance on abortion. They said the procedure should be “safe, legal, and rare” and that it was a solemn decision between a woman and her doctor. Today? They cannot stack the baby bodies high and fast enough.

And if a few women get hurt in the process, so be it.

In response to the Dobbs decision, the Biden administration removed any and all guardrails and oversight for Mifepristone, the abortion drug. Now you can access it by mail, even in a state where the abortion drug is outlawed. That means if your husband or boyfriend doesn’t want to be a father, he too can hop online, get the pill with no questions asked from a so-called doctor in California or New York, and spike your food or beverage. If he gets caught, he might go to prison. But the medical professional who sent him the drug will be protected by Democrats like Gavin Newsom and Kathy Hochul.

Oh, and the FDA lied about the risk of serious side effects associated with Mifepristone, by the way. Women have an 11 percent chance of experiencing bleeding, infection, sepsis and other complications that could be fatal. In Georgia, Amber Nicole Thurman died because she got the abortion pill in North Carolina, took it without supervision, and ended up retaining the remains of the twins she was carrying. She developed an infection and died.

The Left blamed Georgia’s abortion laws and not the North Carolina doctor who gave her these pills without doing a basic exam or any follow-up, or the Georgia doctors who neglected to adequately and appropriately treat her sepsis.

Now Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey has signed a piece of legislation, flanked by white leftist women, allowing for the wholesale murder of babies up to the point of birth. The Left defends this, saying it only gives doctors discretion to perform an abortion if the mother’s life is at risk.

That is a lie, of course. There is no condition that would threaten the life of the mother that’s also cured by killing the unborn child. A baby is viable at around 24 weeks, which means that if a woman develops something like pre-eclampsia or cancer, delivering the premature baby would be appropriate.

Killing it, of course, is not.

But that’s not why women have abortions, by and large. I have read extensively on this issue, and one such fact I picked up is this: a woman once had a late-term abortion because the pregnancy was interfering with her ability to go clubbing. No, I’m not joking. She claimed it was negatively impacting her mental health.

Meanwhile, Massachusetts outlawed the death penalty, and every single woman in that room would have more compassion for a violent criminal on death row than an unborn child in the womb. Late-term abortion is graphic and brutal. Medicine is injected into the baby’s heart to stop it before the baby is ripped apart in the womb and removed.

The Left balks at injecting a convicted murderer with similar chemicals on death row. They call it inhumane and torture. But if it’s a baby, it’s a “choice” and “reproductive care.”

George Orwell to the white courtesy phone.

Boston Archbishop Richard Henning has condemned the legislation, calling it a “grave offense against the sanctity and dignity of every person.”

He’s correct, of course, but a formal excommunication of Healey, a self-described Catholic, is not only correct, but necessary. Make no mistake, Healey has already excommunicated herself by supporting abortion. But a message must be sent to both Healey and the rest of the faithful: abortion is a mortal sin, and she is no longer in communion with the Catholic Church because of it. Henning should, in an ideal world, issue a directive barring Healey from communion until she recants her position on abortion and stops supporting such barbaric legislation.

This, however, transcends religion. There is a very real cultural rot in a nation that’s aborted 70 million citizens in the last 53 years, only to turn around and say we need to import criminals from every Third World hellhole to pick our lettuce and clean our toilets. Something needs to change, and quick.

There are two things at play here. First, the Left’s compassion and sympathy for a person is inversely proportional to how innocent that person is. That’s why they’ve killed 70 million babies since Roe, but weep over guys like George Floyd (who once assaulted a pregnant woman). Second, the maternal instinct is strong. But a generation of leftist women has been told motherhood is an obstacle to having a career and traveling the world. Heck, even AOC is freezing her eggs because she wants to be president before she starts a family, or something. Yet the maternal instinct is, well, an instinct.

I never grew up around babies. I was two and a half when my younger brother was born, and when I babysat, it was for children who were at least four or five years old. But when I had my first son, something just … clicked the moment they put him in my arms. It’s wired into our DNA.

For leftist women, that urge doesn’t simply go away because they’ve been brainwashed into believing babies hold them back. It manifests itself in ridiculous ways (e.g. “dog mom” and “fur babies”) and dangerous ones. They took the maternal instinct that should go toward their children and directed it towards violent criminals, illegal aliens, and Islamists who would quite literally keep them barefoot and pregnant.

We can also predict exactly where this legislation will lead. Boston is setting the stage for the rise of another Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia butcher who performed illegal late-term abortions and infanticides at his house of horrors. At least one woman, Karnamaya Mongar, died at Gosnell’s hands, and countless others were injured. Women suffered perforated uteruses, damaged cervixes, or torn bowels and infections from unsterilized equipment and unsanitary facilities. Gosnell thrived because authorities never inspected his clinic. They didn’t want to have to shut him down for numerous violations. In short, their malaligned maternal instinct protected a man who hurt countless women.

Massachusetts will be no different. Babies will die, and so will women. Those who don’t die will be left with serious mental and physical harm.

And these women smile about that.
