Alaska Is About to Get a Major Energy Project

When finished, the pipeline would be 807 miles and go from northern to southern Alaska in a move that the White House says “will lower energy prices for Alaskans by providing a reliable and secure supply year-round.” The investment “commitment” from South Korea is $200 billion in total after a trade agreement with the country last year, which includes other energy projects in the United States.

As Bloomberg noted, the event comes in the backdrop of a competitive Senate race in Alaska between Sen. Dan Sullivan and former Rep. Mary Peltola (D-AK). The race is considered a “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report.

Earlier this week, the president announced a large Iowa steel mill project alongside Iowa leaders including Rep. Ashley Hinson, who’s in a heated Senate race, as well as Rep. Marionette Miller-Meeks, whose race is also considered a toss-up by the aforementioned report. The economic announcements are one way the president is visibly highlighting wins in key states ahead of the midterm elections. 

Sullivan will be in attendance at the White House event, along with Gov. Mike Dunleavy and Rep. Nick Begich. In addition, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Jarrod Agen, Assistant to the President and Executive Director of the National Energy Dominance Council, will be guests, the White House official noted.
