MARYLAND (WBFF) — Marylanders will have a chance to see what NASA considers one of the most beautiful meteor showers of the year as it peaks overnight Wednesday.
The Orionids are remnants of Halley’s Comet that leave a glowing path as they burn up in the atmosphere. The meteor shower peaks this week and shines every fall, unlike the once-in-a-lifetime comet it originates from.
Those who look up at the sky could see up to 20 meteors per hour, said Anthony Burrows, the author of the Celestial Report for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Visibility will increase after the moon sets at 2:20 a.m., so Burrows recommends looking for the shower in the early morning.
