WASHINGTON (TNND) — Ghislaine Maxwell, the accomplice of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, on Wednesday requested that a judge throw out her sex abuse conviction.
She argued that it should be thrown out because wasn’t prosecuted in a fair manner, according to The Hill newspaper.
A counterpart to Epstein filed a court petition in New York, also called a habeas petition, where she would represent herself.
If the bidis successful, she could get a new trial.
Earlier this month, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had a meeting with Maxwell and said “it’s an impossible question to answer” about her credibility.
Epstein died in prison in August 2019 as he was waiting for a trial on sex trafficking charges of minors and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.
Maxwell is currently serving 20 years in prison for sex trafficking and other charges in connection with Epstein. She was moved to a minimum security federal prison in Texas and seemed “happier” as a result, according to The Guardian.
Earlier this year, Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which means the Department of Justice has to release most of the Epstein files by Dec. 19.
The DOJ doesn’t have to release files that would reveal information about the victims of Epstein or harm other ongoing investigations.
Last week, House Oversight Democrats released several new pictures from disgraced financier Epstein’s estate, with some pictures showing President Donald Trump, former President Bill Clinton and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.
