Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he spoke with U.S. officials for almost an hour on Christmas Day, as negotiators continue to hash out a proposed framework to end the Russia-Ukraine war.

This includes US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. On top of the talks on Thursday, officials from both countries met in Miami to keep the conversation going.

It was a really good conversation, with lots of details and good ideas, which we discussed. We have some new ideas on how to bring about real peace, and this concerns formats, meetings, and, of course, timing,” Zelenskyy said.

He added that Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov will also speak with U.S. negotiators again.

“It is important if we manage to organize what we discussed today. Some documents are already ready, I see that they are almost completely ready, some documents are ready,” Zelenskyy said.

Earlier this week, Zelenskyy said the draft framework to end the war was reduced to a 20 point plant from a lengthy 28, including security guarantees for Ukraine, European allies and the United States. The plan would involve pulling back troops from certain regions, according to CNN.

A Kremlin spokesperson told the outlet that Russia is “currently analyzing the materials” of the plan.

Russia launched another aerial attack on Ukraine on Tuesday, killing at least three individuals and injuring at least another 17, according to CNN. Zelenskyy said he remains vigilant for additional attacks ahead of Christmas.

We understand that precisely on these days they may — this is in their nature — carry out massive strikes on Christmas,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
