PHOENIX (WKRC/KPHO/CNN Newsource) – A family is thanking two strangers for intervening and saving a 71-year-old man’s life during a violent attack while he was walking his dog.
Jeff Zimmerman was attacked last Saturday by a person riding a bicycle, suffering severe head injuries, multiple broken bones and trauma to his right eye, according to his family. The injuries compounded Zimmerman’s ongoing treatment for a brain tumor.
His daughter, Kiera Zimmerman, described her father as “the most loving guy” and “the strongest person I’ve met in my life.” She said the strangers’ actions were crucial.

“The fact that they were right place, right time is literally an act of God,” she said. “He’s OK because of these two strangers that happened to be there at the right time.”
Zimmerman spent four days in the intensive care unit before being transferred to a trauma unit. Despite the severity of his injuries, his daughter said the family is focused on his survival.
“I can’t even be upset because I’m just so thankful that he’s alive,” she said.

The family said Zimmerman’s medical expenses exceed $200,000, in addition to the cost of his ongoing cancer treatments. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help cover the bills and has raised more than $25,000.
