
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 16-year-old Gaithersburg girl is facing charges after being accused of making threats on Instagram against Wootton High School on Tuesday.
A Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) officer spoke to a Rockville parent who said his child, another student at Wootton, saw an Instagram post with a direct threat to the school.

A detective interviewed the teenager and her parents when the girl admitted to making the threats. There does not appear to be an ongoing threat to the community, according to MCPD.
She faces a threats of mass violence charge. Department of Juvenile Services will process the case, according to MCPD.
MCPD and Rockville City Police increased police presence at Wootton High School.
This threat came over two weeks after a shooting at Wootton High School.

Kahlil White-Villatoro, also 16, will face murder and assault charges for the recent school shooting.
Montgomery County Public Schools gave the following statement to 7News:
Even when a threat is found to be non-credible, these situations are still disruptive and incredibly stressful for our students and families. We are grateful for the support from local law enforcement and our administrators at Thomas W. Wootton High School during this incident.
Wootton High School staff also sent a letter to students, families and staff explaining the increased police and security presence.
