2 killed after plane crashes into Ohio home, sparking massive fire: authorities

Two people were killed when a small plane crashed into a house in Ohio on Thursday, sparking a massive fire in a residential neighborhood, according to authorities.

The plane had been in the air for more than an hour and was reportedly preparing to land when it hit the house.

“Crews are actively working the scene,” the Akron Fire Department wrote on Facebook shortly before 4 p.m. local time.

Videos circulating online appeared to show flames and towering black smoke pouring from the home.

Crews evacuated the home, as well as a nearby house.

Fox News reported that two people aboard the plane were found dead inside the wreckage, adding that authorities said no injuries were immediately reported among people on the ground.

The media outlet noted that authorities have not yet released the identities of the people who were killed.

The National Transportation Safety Board, which said is investigating the crash, identified the plane as a Piper PA-28.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
