BETHESDA, Md. (7News) — Several workers were injured Monday morning in a “possible electrical explosion” inside an electrical shaft next to the Medical Center Metro station, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) officials.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Pete Piringer said crews were called around 7:45 a.m. to reports of a possible electrical explosion and injuries involving workers inside an electrical shaft located next to the station near Rockville Pike.

Piringer said the incident involved multiple workers who were in a confined space within the shaft when the event occurred.
Officials said at least three Metro contractors suffered serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals. All of the injuries were described as serious and included electrical burns.

Piringer said all workers have since been removed from the shaft and are being treated and evaluated.
Officials add that the Medical Center Metro station remains open and operational.

Officials have not yet released further details on what caused the electrical incident.
