CARROLL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A two-alarm fire tore through the attic of a Mennonite church in Carroll County on Tuesday evening, causing $400,000 in damages.
The fire was reported at 6:31 p.m. on May 5 at Mt. Airy Mennonite Church, 7101 Watersville Road in Mt. Airy, by a passerby who discovered the fire.
The one-story church was not actively being used, but the property was maintained.
Fire officials say the fire started in the attic, but the preliminary cause remains under investigation, though an electrical failure cannot be ruled out.

Estimated damages were estimated at $200,000 to the structure and $200,000 to the contents.
A fire alarm was present, but whether it activated was unknown.
