73-year-old arrested in Fairfax County burglary now charged in 2 Bethesda break-ins

A 73-year-old man previously arrested in connection with a Fairfax County burglary is now charged in two Bethesda break-ins, according to Montgomery County police.

Police said Michael Spillino of Newport, Oregon, first attempted to break into a home on Broxburn Drive on Oct.19. The homeowner heard a loud noise and allegedly saw Spillino kicking a rear door. He left after failing to get inside.

A week later, on Oct. 26, police said Spillino entered a home on Burdette Road through an unlocked rear door. The homeowner saw him inside before he fled with stolen property.

Detectives compared photographs and security footage and identified Spillino as the suspect in both cases. Fairfax County police later located him and connected him to another burglary in Virginia.

Police say a search of Spillino’s vehicle uncovered property stolen from the Bethesda home.

Spillino faces first-degree burglary and attempted first-degree burglary charges in Montgomery County. He is being held in Fairfax County, Virginia, while awaiting extradition.
