MARYLAND (WBFF) — As the Super Bowl quickly approaches, AAA is urging fans to prioritize safety by planning for a sober ride home from watch parties.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 45% of traffic fatalities on game day involve alcohol-impaired drivers.
Ragina Ali, AAA’s Public and Government Affairs Manager for Maryland and Washington, D.C., emphasized the dangers, stating, “Drinking and driving is not a game – it’s a deadly combination and a crime.”
Impaired driving fatalities have risen 33% since 2019, with someone injured or killed in a drunk driving crash every 85 seconds, according to Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In response, AAA and MADD have launched a collaboration to reduce impaired driving fatalities by 20% by 2030.
Law enforcement will be vigilant on game day, enforcing zero tolerance for impaired drivers.

Ali advised, “Always drive 100% sober. For some, even one alcoholic beverage could be one too many.”
AAA and MADD offer tips for safe celebrations: designate a sober driver, report drunk drivers, and ensure all passengers wear seat belts.
Party hosts should ensure guests have sober rides and never serve alcohol to minors.
